Geyser Buying Guide - Choose the best geyser

With the winters fast approaching, everybody is running to buy a good geyser. While a geyser is a highly useful product for commercial and domestic purpose, it can often be tricky and frustrating to buy one at times. There are a number of brands available in the market to lure you, as a result of which you might end up buying a futile geyser for your home.

So before buying one for yourself, take a note of these points that will help you to make the best of your money:

Types of geyser:

Currently there are three types of geysers available in the market.

  • Electric geyser
  • Gas geyser
  • Solar geyer

While electric geyser are one of the most common types we see in our everyday lives, solar geysers have been on the rise for the past few years. The gas and solar geyser post no threat to the environment and are comparatively pocket friendlier. Electric geyser, on the other hand, relies solely on electricity and it has a significant impact on your electricity bill.

Power consumption: A solar and gas geyser would require zero electricity. But while choosing an electric geyser, always opt for the one that is 5 star rated as that consumes less electricity and has lesser heat loss. Though the geyser with higher star rating might be a little expensive at first but eventually it will save you a lot of money over the period of time.

Features: An efficient geyser is always said to have the following features.

  • Safety value for pressure release
  • Glass coated heating element
  • Automatic thermal cut out
  • Adjustable thermostat settings
  • Rust proof outer body and so on

The auto cut feature of the geyser saves energy by turning the unit off automatically after heating. It also helps in preventing the water heater from burning out and causing accidental damage. The safety value is designed in a way to relieve pressure automatically and discharge water in case the pressure overshoots the preset limits.

A geyser can be used in a lot of places like a kitchen, bathroom and even in office. Thus, before buying one determine the right size and type of geyser you's want. In India, a geyser is generally used in bathrooms and that too during the winter season. But these days number of people use it in the kitchen for cooking and washing utensils too. In huge commercial building, a solar geyser is often preferred. To sum up, the usage determines the size and functionality of a geyser.

Longevity and parts availability:

Though for a lot of customers, the appearance of a geyser does not really matter much, it is always advised to take a look at the hidden advantages of a good looking geyser. Buy a geyser that has a longer life and the parts which are easily available and replaceable. for example, a tankless geyser's life is of nearly 20 years, compares to the 10 to 12 years for tank type water heaters.
